Public process only works if people know when it is happening. We track the meetings, the hearings, and the dates by which a written comment has to be filed, and the office it has to be filed with.

Send us a question or a concern about the mine. We take it to ACRG or to the regulator, and we post what comes back — including the times we get no answer at all. Over time these accumulate into a record of what was asked and what was answered.

The binding
Where the name comes from.
American Clean Resources Group is a shelf of separate volumes. Projects, sites, permits, people, each with a history of its own and none of them the whole story. The Cross-Caribou Promise is the binding: the thread meant to hold those volumes together, and the first thing to fail if it is made badly.
Some of the pages were written long before the company arrived. By the miners who worked these hills for a century, by the families who chose this valley, and by a town that has earned the right to ask hard questions and expect an answer to them.
The Foundation exists to check the stitching. We publish what has been promised, what has been measured, and what has been delivered, and we record the distance between them.
Done carelessly, it comes apart.
Done honestly, it holds.

02 The mine
A district worked since the 1860s.
The Cross-Caribou Mines sit above Nederland in the Caribou mining district, worked in stages since the nineteenth century and quiet for long stretches since. What was left behind, what is permitted now, and what is proposed next are three different questions, and residents are usually handed the answer to one of them.
The Record page separates them: the history, the permits currently in force, the filings as they are submitted, and a dated timeline of what has actually happened.
